Make a Difference

Here is a list of positive organizations and causes you can support to make the world a better place. This list was originally taken from the following Jezebel article, though it's going to be a work in progress. Since I'm an Ohio native, I will also include Ohio chapters and specific organizations.

American Civil Liberties Union - Defends individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. 


Border Angels - volunteer non-profit that advocates for social justice and immigration (focusing on the U.S.-Mexico border) 


Boys & Girls Clubs of America - offers programs for enrichment to children while they aren't in school.


Campaign Zero - advocates for policy changes to end police violence in the U.S.


Center for Reproductive Rights - world's foremost legal advocates for securing women's access to quailty reproductive health care.


Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) - nations largest Muslim civil liberties group.


EarthJustice - largest non-profit environmental organization in the country.


NARAL Pro-Choice America - political advocacy group focused on fighting for the reproductive rights and freedoms of women.


National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) - promotes civil rights for people of color and works to eliminate race-based discrimination


NAACP Legal Defense Fund - fights for racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and education.


National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) - advocates for victims of domestic violence and attempts to change domestic violence policy


National Immigration Law Center - dedicated to fighting for the rights of low-income imigrants through various methods.


National Immigration Forum - immigrant advocacy group that offers programs to help immigrants join the work force and gain citizenship


National Organization for Women (NOW) - activist group that advocates for equal rights for women.


NextGen Climate Action - political advocacy group that works "to prevent climate disaster."


Planned Parenthood - nation's leading sexual and reproductive healthcare provider.


Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN) - nation's largest anti-sexual violence organisation. It oppoerates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-HOPE). It also offers programs to help sexual violence victims.


Running Start - organization dedicated to education young women and girls about the importants of politics


She Should Run - non-profit that seeks to get more women into elected leader roles.


Sierra Club - nation's largest grassroots environmental organization


Southern Poverty Law Center - fights hate groups and bigotry through education, literacy, and advocacy.


Sylvia Rivera Law Project - provides legal services specifically to low-income people and people of color who are transgender, intersex, or gender non-conforming.


The Trevor Project - Non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth.

United Way - Non-profit organization focused on mobilizing communities around the world to advance the common good.

Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights - works to protect interests of child who come to the U.S. on their own.

All That - Columbus based teen-mentorship program 



Other Parts of the Country

Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angelos (CHIRLA) - advocacy group focusing on human, civil, and labor rights.

Mazzoni Center - offers healthcare for LGBTQ community in Philadelphia. 

New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault - lists a number of volunteer opportunities for childcare, community training, rape crisis counseling, and legal advocacy.
