I grew up watching The Real Ghostbusters, drank Ecto-Cooler, and played the the toys. The cartoon version of the Ghostbusters were always my Ghostbusters. I watched Extreme Ghostbusters when I could (even though I hated the "extreme" marketing, the series was good and a worthy sequel to The Real Ghostbusters). To be honest though, I didn't care for the original until I was an adult. Watching them now, I see a charming aspect of them I didn't when I was younger.
Yesterday, I decided to go watch the new Ghostbusters film in 3D.
Spoiler alert: I absolutely loved it!
This movie received so much unnecessary hate. The original trailer has the dubious honor of being the most disliked video on Youtube. It's understandable if the humor just doesn't seem up someone's alley, but there have been concentrated efforts to discredit this movie before it was even released. Legions of geeks talking about how this movie is made for feminazis and has ruined their childhood. Let me just quickly say that if you seriously use the word feminazi in any way other than addressing idiots that use the word, I will be unable to take you seriously. Second, time just doesn't work that way. Don't believe me, check out this article. Honestly, I think the film's villain, Rowan, is the perfect embodiment of this entitled hate. Rowan is a very one dimensional. He's an outcast that feels he's been slighted and that the world owes him something. He almost never acknowledges any of the teams prowess and makes casually sexist comments. He's essentially one of the internet trolls that gave the film negative attention.
My only complaint about the film is that Chris Hemsworth's Kevin was soooooo ridiculously stupid. It was funny for a bit, but got a little old after a while. Still Hemsworth is a funny, gorgeous man.
The effects were fantastic (especially in 3D) and the laughs were good. I can't wait for the inevitable sequel. You should watch it soon. Also, make sure you stay to the credits.
